Projenco has developed a Facilitation Skills Development program as part of a suite of skills required for the management of Strategic Relationships. Facilitation is the provision of organisational and communication processes using special group dynamic techniques to promote problem solving in teams.
We assist others to develop the skills required to facilitate group activities that are characterised by two-way expressive involvement that emphasises active listening among participants.
One of the major skills of successful facilitators is to quickly win the confidence and interaction of the group by putting them at ease, reducing the fear of the unknown, and creating a non-threatening environment. This requires a subtle understanding of organisational and individual psychology and group dynamics. We help people to facilitate at a ‘personal level’ to build trust, to open communication, and to increase mutual understanding. We assist people to learn the skills required to keep groups on-track, focusing on appropriate issues for the right amount of time, ensuring fairness and equity in contributions to discussion.

Our facilitators are trained to hold groups back when necessary, yet to honour a change in direction when appropriate. We teach well-established facilitation techniques to minimise the effect of resistance, using the energy behind the resistance to move the whole group forward. We offer intervention techniques to deal effectively with specific behaviours and potential conflict. We teach facilitators to ensure that agreement is reached before moving forward, helping to create involvement and ownership of the outcomes. We use an ‘accountability model’ to ensure commitment to group agreements and we teach facilitators how to use a basic problem-solving process as a framework for many group activities.
